Kerry,
Dear Friend,
Keep Ohio Beautiful had a very active 2007-2008 program year! Some of
our highlights include coordinating the second annual State Roadway
Cleanup with the Ohio Department of Transportation; hosting an Annual
Meeting and three regional training opportunities for KOB affiliates;
serving as a partner organization for the 2007 Ohio Partners for
Sustainable Development Conference; and certifying two new affiliates
in Ohio. KOB also launched a pilot program for a new litter
prevention/public awareness campaign. The "Trash Spoils Everything, Untrash Ohio"
campaign took place in Franklin County and involved paid outdoor
media, targeted media pitching, and a corresponding Website and
digital social networking element. We are looking forward to a
statewide launch in 2009.
KOB also received two awards from Keep America Beautiful. We were a
member of the President's Circle for being In Good Standing with KAB
and we received the Silver Level State Affiliate Award for our
programs.
None of these accomplishments would be possible without the support
of our sponsors and partners. Thank you for all of your generous
contributions. KOB is pleased to introduce our KOB Membership
Program, which gives everyone the opportunity to support a
cleaner and greener Ohio! It is up to all of us as individuals to
care for our environment and a contribution to KOB helps to further
that goal. We hope that you will consider Keep Ohio Beautiful in your
charitable contributions. Your support will go a long way to help
keep Ohio beautiful!
Sincerely,
Kimberly McConville, President
Keep Ohio Beautiful Board of Trustees

Did You Know?
Food and
yard waste combined represent one quarter of what Ohioans throw
away. We throw away more than 3 million tons of food scraps each
year in the Buckeye state and most of it ends up in landfills. It
is estimated that the average family of four tosses out about $600
per year in food waste--15% of which is unopened products still
within their expiration date.
Composting is nature's way of recycling leaves, grass clippings,
vegetable trimmings and other organic materials and converting them
into a valuable soil enhancement. Your plants will love the rich
compost while you are saving money and saving space in Ohio
landfills.
Ways to reduce your food and yard waste:
Compost your food scraps and yard trimmings into rich compost. Only
buy the food you know you will eat and be sure to eat the food you
buy. Instead of raking leaves on your lawn in the Fall, just mow
over them to make mulch. It's easy and good for the lawn.
Contact your local solid waste district to find out your options
for yard waste disposal. Do your part to reduce, reuse, and recycle
today.
Information found on the Ohio Recycling Guide, published in 2008
by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling
& Litter Prevention.
